An unfamiliar name, an unfamiliar perfume, a well-rehearsed smile. The night that was supposed to be “anyone will do” turns into time spent searching for that one person. The subject is the failure of replacement.
The scene it came from
Ice ringing in a glass, the music too loud. Standing next to someone new turned out to be this quiet — when standing next to that person was so loud. A song that draws the quietest heart in the noisiest room.
Sound notes
100 BPM, A minor. The only track on the record with club reverb. The kick was deliberately placed far away, as if heard through a wall — the distance of someone whose body is in the club while their heart stands outside. The coldest, most glamorous sound on the album.
