Behind the Track (5th Album) #7 — みんな起きている (Everyone's Awake)
In the seventh room the album unties. Four lit windows across the street — the same four, every night without fail. This is the song of someone who breathes easier just knowing those people didn’t sleep tonight either.
The scene
Look closely at the view from this window and the first six songs are all in it. A taxi passes with someone in the back seat (track 1), the konbini light stays on (track 2), a train sounds in the distance (track 5), last train or first train — that first train is the 2nd album’s — and behind the lit windows are a hospital room, an emptied room, a kitchen. I thought my night alone was special — this was just an ordinary 3AM. The whole album’s release lives in that one line.
Sound notes
88 BPM, E minor — the widest song on the album. It starts at a whisper and opens completely; in the final chorus three voices stack and, for the first time, melisma appears. The single voice that sang eight rooms becomes, here, several.

The windows across go dark one by one, and the outro closes on “goodnight, unknown someone, somewhere out there” — a greeting the next song picks up.
