Behind the Track (5th Album) #6 — やっと静かになった (Finally Quiet)

The sixth room is a kitchen. A night of waking three times, the last spent walking the room with the child in her arms. The one second of lowering them to the futon is terrifying; she lets go holding her breath and leaves on tiptoe. Finally — quiet.

The scene

She sits in the kitchen with the lights off, eating cold rice as-is because warming it would make a sound. Count through the entire day and this is the only hour when nobody calls her name. It’s not that sleep feels wasted — she can’t give up the hour no one calls for her, and she stays up wondering if that makes her a terrible mother.

Sound notes

76 BPM, B-flat major — the album’s only triple meter. A tape-delayed electric piano and mallets borrow the exact rhythm of a lullaby. She sings her own night in the same meter she used to put the child to sleep.

One line

呼ばれない時間が 終わるのが 惜しい — I just can’t give up the hour no one calls for me

The bridge where a small sound from the bedroom stops her breath — just the child turning over, and still something near her chest aches — those four lines are the heart of the song.
